MCP 2008 Coaching Staff Welcome

The MCP 2008 Coaching Staff John Steitz, Kevin Dopart, Ramesh Kurup, Nick Panebianco, Jay Wind and Humaira Quereshi welcome you to the 2008 Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Program of the Marathon Charity Partners (MCP). The coaching staff is here to help you reach your running goals, so please let us help you. Question relating to any training issues should be directed to MCP Coaching Staff e-mail alias.

Training Kick-off – You Must RSVP

Our 2008 training program formally begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 10th, in Bethesda, MD. We will be meeting in the parking lot at Bethesda and Woodmont Avenues. A map to the start can be found on either through links on the Training Schedule or directly on our Meeting Locations page.

If you plan to attend the run, PLEASE RSVP on the Training Run Reservation Request page no later than Noon on Friday, May 9th.

Please arrive at 7:45 sharp so that you can complete the training program form and be ready to run at 8AM. We will have a brief orientation about the program and then we will be off onto the Capital Cresent Trail. A map of the training run can be found on our Training Run Locations page.

Training Schedule

Each Saturday through October 18th a long run will be led by one of the MCP coaches, and hosted by one or more of the MCP member charities, who provide fluids and food, along with other course support.
Consult the 2008 Training Schedule for the times and locations of each Saturday long run. We vary the location in a five-venue rotation, so chances are there is at least one venue much closer to where you live than the others.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are required to run distances of three to six miles at least twice each week to compliment your Saturday Long Runs. This is the MCP MINIMUM prescription for all marathon trainees. Please consult our First Time Marathoner Training Schedule page to provide you with suggested distances

The Training Schedule also contains weekly runs on Tuesday (Claredon, VA) and Thursday (Chevy Chase, MD). No need to sign up for the weekly runs - just come out to the venue, tell the run leader you are an MCP trainee, and the run leader will give you a workout suitable for your experience and pace.

What To Wear? - Equipment Seminar

Many beginning runners have questions about shoes, socks, watches, gu (what is that?), and Glide (huh?). Join the coaches for a visit to RnJ Sports after the training run on Saturday. The store is a short walk from where our post run refreshments will be served. The store personnel will talk about the essential equipment that runners need to successfullly train for and finish a marathon. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and purchase items.
