Downhill Mile

James Scarborough conceived the idea of a small race down the new Donaldson Run Trail after Arlington County funded and finished two new bridges on the trail, making it a full mile top to bottom.

A week before the race, Larry Finch of the Donaldson Run Civic Association published a photo album of a walking tour of the restoration project and upon request, Larry offered to serve at the finish line as timer, card-hander-outer, and refreshments provider.

A splendid time was had by all, including Charlie Mercer, who defined the course record, winning in 4:29.
